On October 1st, the NJ Tree Foundation joined over 60 Camden residents and visiting volunteers to plant 21 large trees along the 1100 block of Lansdowne Avenue in the Whitman Park neighborhood of Camden. These trees were planted through the Urban Airshed Reforestation Program, an effort to improve air and water quality while empowering residents as community leaders. Since 2002, the UARP has planted over 4,000 trees in Camden.

The October 1st tree planting was organized by 84-year old resident Juanita Butler, in partnership with NJTF. Her passion and enthusiasm for neighborhood beautification are an inspiration. “It was so good to meet her and hear her story. It made me want to volunteer every weekend,” said South Jersey resident and tree planting volunteer John Dill. With 21 new trees standing tall on her block, Juanita told Jessica of the NJTF, “I just feel so proud! This looks like a whole new street.”
